Turlock is a city located in Stanislaus County, California. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 64,920. Turlock is located in California’s Central Valley, north of Modesto and south of Merced. It is the second-largest city in Stanislaus County. Turlock lies in the San Joaquin Valley, at an elevation of 87 feet (27 m).
Turlock is named after John W. Turlock, who founded the town in 1871. The city’s motto is “The Heart of the Valley”, referring to its location in the center of the San Joaquin Valley.
Turlock is known for its annual almond festival, as well as its many wineries and vineyards. The city is also home to California State University, Stanislaus.
