The present location of Lincoln was surveyed by Theodore Judah along the proposed line of the California Central Railroad. Lincoln was named in honor of Charles Lincoln Wilson, an early California settler and businessman.

10. Orangevale
Orangevale is a community located in the Sacramento metropolitan area of California. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 33,960. The community is located approximately 25 miles northeast of Sacramento, and 15 miles southwest of Auburn.
The area now known as Orangevale was originally part of Rancho San Juan Capistrano, a Mexican land grant. In 1844, the Rancho was divided into two parts, with the northern part being given to John Johnson, and the southern part being given to William McKinley. In 1856, Johnson sold his part of the Rancho to Theodore Cordua, and in 1865, Cordua sold his land to James Stevenson. Stevenson then subdivided his land into small farms and sold them off.
In 1909, the area was proposed as a site for a new branch of the State Normal School, now known as Sacramento State University. The school was built in 1911, and the area around it became known as Normal Heights. In 1923, the name of the community was changed to Orangevale.
The community is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, and is home to several parks and recreation areas. The Orangevale Recreation and Park District operates a community center, swimming pool, and several parks, including youth sports fields.
The city is served by the Twin Rivers Unified School District. Orangevale is also home to a branch of the Sacramento Public Library.
The community is served by two newspapers, the Orangevale Press and the Folsom Telegraph.
