Pleasanton is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. It is a suburb in the San Francisco Bay Area located about 25 miles (40 km) east of Oakland. The population was 70,285 at the 2010 census. In 2005 and 2007, Pleasanton was ranked the wealthiest middle-sized city in the United States by the Census Bureau.
Pleasanton is home to the headquarters of Safeway Inc. and Blackhawk Network. Although Oakland is the Alameda County seat, a few county offices and a courthouse are located in Pleasanton. Additionally, the main campus of the ValleyCare Health System is located in Pleasanton.
Pleasanton was ranked the 11th safest city in the United States in 2009 by Forbes magazine.
Pleasanton’s downtown consists of a main street with a number of shops, restaurants, and businesses. There is also a farmer’s market every Saturday morning. The city has a number of parks, including a large community park with a playground, a skate park, a dog park, and tennis courts.
