Orinda is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 17,643 at the 2010 census, and was estimated in 2019 to be 19,492. Orinda was ranked the second-safest city in the nation by WalletHub in 2019.
Orinda was incorporated as a city on July 1, 1985. Prior to incorporation, it was an unincorporated community in Contra Costa County. It is located approximately 11 miles (18 km) east of San Francisco, 18 miles (29 km) northwest of Oakland, and 31 miles (50 km) north of San Jose.
The city is situated between the San Pablo Reservoir to the southwest and the Las Trampas Regional Wilderness to the northeast. The city is divided into four neighborhoods: Orinda Village, Altura, Camino Tassajara, and Sleepy Hollow.
