Saratoga is a city in Santa Clara County, California, United States. The population was 30,201 at the 2010 census. Located on the west side of the Santa Clara Valley, directly west of San Jose and northwest of Campbell, Saratoga is one of the wealthiest cities in the Silicon Valley. The city is also known for its high real estate prices and its suburban feel. In 2010, Bloomberg Businessweek ranked Saratoga the most expensive suburb in California.
Saratoga was ranked 24th in CNN Money magazine’s list of best places to live in the United States in 2005. The 2010 United States Census reported that Saratoga had a population of 30,201. The population density was 3,061.4 people per square mile (1,178.4/km²). The racial makeup of Saratoga was 22,545 (74.5%) White, 148 (0.5%) African American, 187 (0.6%) Native American, 4,297 (14.2%) Asian, 33 (0.1%) Pacific Islander, 1,923 (6.4%) from other races, and 1,086 (3.6%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4,687 persons (15.6%).
The Census reported that 29,889 people (99.2% of the population) lived in households, 312 (1.0%) lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 0 (0%) were institutionalized.
There were 11,302 households, out of which 3,595 (31.8%) had children under the age of 18 living in them, 6,458 (57.2%) were opposite-sex married couples living together, 897 (7.9%) had a female householder with no husband present, 378 (3.4%) had a male householder with no wife present. There were 467 (4.1%) unmarried opposite-sex partnerships, and 99 (0.9%) same-sex married couples or partnerships. 2,205 households (19.5%) were made up of individuals and 1,370 (12.1%) had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65. There were 8,281 families (73.2% of all households); the average family size was 3.14.
