Mountain View is a city located in the northern Santa Clara Valley, in the U.S. state of California. Named for its views of the Santa Cruz Mountains, from its founding it has been a leader in technology and home to major technology companies such as Google, Symantec, and Intuit.
The city is bordered by the San Francisco Bay to the north, San Jose to the south, and the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west. Mountain View is one of the principal cities of Silicon Valley.
Mountain View has a Mediterranean climate characterized by mild, wet winters and dry, warm summers. The city experiences heavy traffic due to its proximity to major highways 101 and 85.
Mountain View is a culturally diverse city with a large Hispanic population. The city is home to a number of museums and cultural institutions, including the Computer History Museum, the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, and the Mountain View Public Library.
The city is served by the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District. Mountain View is also served by two major hospitals, El Camino Hospital and the VA Palo Alto Health Care System.
