In the late 1920s, La Habra Heights was subdivided for residential development. The original subdivision was called “The Heights” and was bounded by La Habra Boulevard on the south, Puente Street on the west, City Limit Street on the north, and Euclid Street on the east. The streets were named after the family of John Gano: Barbara, Julia, Marguerita, John, Carl, Isabel, Gertrude, and Mary.

After the subdivision was completed, La Habra Heights remained rural and undeveloped until the 1960s. In 1963, the first elementary school, La Habra Heights Elementary, was built.
