The 2010 United States Census reported that Gaviota had a population of 1,473. The racial makeup of Gaviota was 1,076 (73.2%) White, 15 (1.0%) African American, 24 (1.6%) Native American, 12 (0.8%) Asian, 1 (0.1%) Pacific Islander, 297 (20.2%) from other races, and 47 (3.2%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 654 persons (44.6%).
