Aliso Viejo is a city in Orange County, California. The city had a population of 47,823 as of the 2010 census, up from 40,166 as of the 2000 census. It is the home of Soka University of America, a private four-year liberal arts university. It is also the site of the headquarters for the real estate investment trust Oaktree Capital Management.
The city was incorporated on July 1, 2001, and is the youngest city in Orange County. It is bordered by the cities of Laguna Niguel and Laguna Beach to the north, Laguna Hills to the northwest, Aliso Creek to the west, and the San Joaquin Hills to the east.
The city’s name is a reference to the Spanish Rancho Niguel of which Aliso Viejo was a part. The word Viejo is Spanish for “old”.
The city is home to many technology and financial companies, including Oaktree Capital Management, Soka University of America, and 5 Minute Clinic.
Aliso Viejo is also home to many parks, including Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, Don Juan Avila Adobe, and Heritage Park.
